Arkansas Access to Justice Foundation

Our Foundation represents the unified strength of two pioneering organizations. In 2014, the Arkansas IOLTA Foundation (established 1985) and the Arkansas Access to Justice Foundation (established 2009) merged to create a single, more effective force for justice in Arkansas. This merger brought together decades of experience and commitment to serve those who need legal help most.

While we don’t provide direct legal representation, we play a vital role in sustaining Arkansas’s civil legal aid infrastructure through strategic funding and resource development:

IOLTA Program Management
We administer Arkansas’s Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Program, transforming interest from attorney trust accounts into a reliable funding stream for civil legal aid organizations.

Grant Development and Fundraising
We actively pursue grants and donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals to strengthen legal aid programs across the state.

Cy Pres Administration
We direct unclaimed settlement funds from class-action lawsuits to organizations providing legal services, ensuring these resources benefit Arkansans in need.

Strategic Grant-Making
We provide essential funding to Arkansas’s legal aid providers, helping them maintain services and reach more clients in need.

Our work ensures that low-income Arkansans facing civil legal challenges have somewhere to turn. From preventing wrongful evictions to protecting victims of domestic violence, from securing veterans’ benefits to safeguarding seniors from exploitation, the organizations we fund provide essential legal help when it matters most.

We also invest in:

  • Public education about civil justice needs and available resources
  • Scholarships for future public service attorneys
  • Innovations that improve court accessibility and efficiency
  • Pro bono programs that engage private attorneys in serving the public good

Through strategic funding and collaborative partnerships, we’re building a more just Arkansas—one where your ability to protect your legal rights doesn’t depend on your ability to pay for an attorney.

We welcome your questions about our financial operations and impact. Please reach out through our contact form to learn more about how we’re working to maximize access to justice for all Arkansans.

The Arkansas Access to Justice Foundation is governed by a board that brings together diverse perspectives from across Arkansas. Members include attorneys and judges who understand the legal system, as well as nonprofit leaders and community advocates who see firsthand how legal problems affect the people they serve.

Our board members oversee IOLTA program administration, guide strategic grant-making decisions, and work to expand funding sources for civil legal aid across the state. They serve as volunteers, drawing on their professional experience and community connections to ensure that low-income Arkansans have meaningful access to the courts.
