Ask a Lawyer a Question
AR Free Legal Answers is a free online service where you can post a question about your non-criminal legal problem and have it answered by a volunteer attorney in Arkansas. No appointments to schedule, no office visits required, and completely free.
Get help with family law issues, housing problems, debt and bankruptcy, employment matters, estate issues, and more. If you qualify based on income, you can ask up to three questions per year and receive written guidance from a licensed attorney, usually within a few days.

Apply for Free Legal Aid
If you need more than just advice, you may qualify for free legal aid. Legal aid provides someone to represent you in court or handle your legal matter from start to finish.
What Legal Aid Can Do
Legal aid provides full representation, not just guidance. This means an attorney can go to court with you, file paperwork on your behalf, and handle your case through resolution. Legal aid attorneys help with housing issues (evictions, uninhabitable conditions), family law (divorce, custody, domestic violence), consumer problems (debt, bankruptcy), public benefits, elder law, and more.
What to Expect After You Apply
After you apply, you’ll be screened for financial eligibility and case type. If eligible, you may receive:
Advice to help you resolve your problem on your own (71% of cases)
Brief service, such as sending a demand letter or making a phone call on your behalf
Full representation by a staff lawyer or volunteer attorney who handles your case through completion (21% of cases)
Who Qualifies
To qualify for legal aid, your income must be at or below 125% of federal poverty guidelines (about $39,000 – $62,400 for a family of four in 2025). Legal aid serves all counties across Arkansas.

Get Low-Cost Legal Help
If you can't afford full-priced legal assistance but don't qualify for free legal aid, you might consider hiring an attorney who offers unbundled legal services (also called "a la carte legal services").
How Unbundled Services Work
These attorneys charge reduced fees and handle only parts of your case while you manage the rest. For example, if you're getting divorced, an attorney might draft the divorce complaint and coach you on what to say at the hearing. You would be responsible for filing the complaint, attending the hearing, and handling other parts of your case.
The more tasks the attorney handles, the higher their fee. The more you handle yourself, the lower their fee. You don't need to be low-income to use this service.
